Jena Nelson Statement on Federal Government Shutdown

CD-5 Congressional Candidate Jena Nelson issued the following statement regarding the federal government shutdown:

“Democrats are fighting to keep our healthcare plans in place while the republicans are working to eliminate them. That’s the bottom line. Republicans like Stephanie Bice are using cute little hashtags and spreading little lies to distract from their culpability in dismantling healthcare systems. But here’s the dirty little secret about the so-called “clean” continued resolutions she talks so much about: They lock the status quo in place and ensure the massive Medicaid and ACA cuts are permanent.”  

“For more than a decade, republicans have tried to kill these programs legislatively, but the American people won’t allow it, so they are trying to starve them to death through sneaky budgetary maneuvers. These insurance plans allow millions of working families to have insurance coverage. When Oklahomans get sick, when their kids get sick, I want them to have the coverage necessary to the care they need. And I believe that coverage should be available at a fair price. I’ll fight tooth and nail for that in Congress, something the current Representative won’t lift a finger to accomplish for her constituents.”
